THE HIGHLIGHTS
Situated in the heart of Cognac, beside the Charente river, Hôtel Chais Monnet is the perfect destination for an indulgent trip away. Housed in a 19th century former distillery - formerly home of the Monnet family and their eponymous cognac - this is a truly stunning five-star hotel.
A sweeping driveway makes for an impressive entrance, and a glass pavilion by Didier Poignant makes a striking contrast with the rest of the historic building. Step inside to a reception flooded with light and cool, crisp interiors accented by touches of brandy and gold.
The hotel's spa is perfect for whiling away a relaxing afternoon, with an indoor-outdoor pool, jacuzzi, sauna and steam room, plus a menu of treatments to choose from.
A big draw is the hotel's Michelin-starred restaurant, Les Foudres, located in the ageing cellars of the distillery - the restored cognac barrels make for an impressive backdrop as you sample your seasonal tasting menu.
